I pinched my sciatic nerve and spent over six months in chronic pain. Just when I thought I was healing, I re-injured it — and that’s when I realized how vulnerable my body had become.I tried everything: rest, stretching, avoiding movement, pushing through pain. Some helped briefly. Some made things worse.What I learned the hard way is that not all stretches are helpful. When the body isn’t ready, certain stretches can increase inflammation and irritate the sciatic nerve. Real healing didn’t come from stretching alone. What changed everything was learning which stretches were appropriate, when to use them, and when not to stretch — combined with proper strength work.That balance — avoiding aggravating movements while strengthening the muscles that support the spine, hips, and pelvis — is what allowed my body to heal.
